In the last week, I've heard a few more funny comments about me having a baby from my students that I thought I should share (the first being my VERY favorite)!
After showing a 2nd grade student the ultrasound photo below... "OH NO MRS. ABELL!!!! YOUR BABY BLACK!!!!!" At the time, he was truly concerned, and was looking at a picture of Derrick and I realizing we are NOT in ANY WAY African American. We had a nice discussion about how the baby's picture was just a black and white photo, not that it told us what color the baby is going to be. :)
Me to 4th graders: "Sorry guys, I'm a little cranky, but those 1st graders couldn't get it together and you guys are worse than them!!!"
Sweet Student: "Well, Mrs. Abell, your baby is probably making you pretty cranky too..."
After making popcorn to fulfill the consistent demands my hunger places on me...
"Mrs. Abell!!! Why do you get popcorn and we don't?! That's not fair!!"
"Well, because I'm having a baby and I need to eat."
Same sweet student: "Guys...she's right. When my mommy was going to have a baby she was REALLY sick. If we don't let her eat that, she'll puke all over the place and we'll have to watch!!!"
