Derrick turned 30 a few weeks ago. His birthday was sandwiched in between Josiah's ear infection, me being sick, and then Josiah covered in hives. So, the picture is when he got his gift from his sister-I didn't even take a picture of just him on his birthday! I spent the morning of his birthday at the doctor with Josiah and he took Addilyn with him to the DMV since old guys have to renew their licenses ;). Happy Birthday, right? You know what, Derrick didn't mind at all. I think he was almost relived that I didn't have time to plan something special for him and believe me, I had lots of ideas in my head, but each one I thought of, I also quickly remembered that he would probably hate. He hates being the center of attention. Hates to be made a big deal. But, he deserves to be made a big deal each and every single day. He takes SUCH great care of us. He loves the kids and I with everything he has. He always treats our kids with love and true interest in what they are doing. He always treats me with the greatest of love, care, and respect. The more I learn about other's marriages and how God put us all together, I am AMAZED by how blessed God has made me. Derrick always helps out with keeping our home picked up, is significantly better at laundry than I am (speaking of which...I think there's still a load in the washer from a few days ago, darnit! sorry babe!), does all of our finances, and helps taking care of the kids whenever he can. (so...I'm not sure what I actually do...), and works a full-time, always on call job! I am blessed. Thank you Lord for letting me be part of such an amazing man's story. So excited to see all you do through him!
While it was a crazy day and there was no big party, I did make as many of Derricks favorite foods as I could fit into a day. Biscuits and Gravy with eggs for breakfast, leftovers for lunch (no kidding, he really does like them.) Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin, Mashed Potatoes, and corn for dinner and some of his favorites for snacks for life group, complete with singing:
Bacon Double Cheeseburger dip,
Cake, Fruit and Dip (less for Derrick..more for people wanting something a little healthy), and of course lots of cupcakes. Addilyn does not believe a birfday can really be a birfday without cupcakes.
